India in England: Shardul Thakur replaces injured Jasprit Bumrah for ODIs

first_imgPacer Shardul Thakur has been named as replacement for injured fast bowler Japsrit Bumrah for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, the BCCI announced on Friday.”The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Shardul Thakur as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ODI squad,” the BCCI press release said.The release further stated that Bumrah underwent a successful surgery on Wednesday and has returned back to India.”Bumrah underwent a surgery on Wednesday, July 4, 2018 in Leeds before returning to India. The surgery was successful and he will commence rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team.”Bumrah suffered an injury to his left thumb while fielding in the first T20I against Ireland in Dublin. The injury resulted in him being ruled out of the second T20I and the ongoing T20I series against England. He was replaced by Deepak Chahar in the T20I squad.Shardul has played three ODIs for India and has five wickets to his name at an average of 25.20 and an economy rate of 5.77.His last ODI assignment with Team India was the six-match series against South Africa, which India won 5-1.He was recently part of the India A squad that played in the one-day tri-series against England Lions and West Indies A.
