first_imgThe Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has received a large consignment of technology (ICT) equipment and accessories from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Liberia. The equipment includes 50 desktop computers, 25 laptops, 50 UPS, 20 switches and 6 heavy-duty printers,  among others. The ICT support is in response to a request made by the LRA to UNDP earlier this year, to assist the entity in setting up its data center. The donation of the ICT equipment is the first phase of the data center project, the cost of which is estimated at over US$200,000.Presenting the equipment  over the weekend, UNDP’s Deputy Country Director for Operations, Rokya ye-Dieng, its Economic Advisor Janice James, National Economic Advisor Stanley Kamara, as well as the Team Leader for UNDP Sustainable Economic Transformation, Pillar DorslaFarcarthy, stressed that the partnership with the LRA is in fulfilment of UNDP’s mandate to promote human development. The UNDP Senior Managers urged the LRA to use the supplies to help promote independence in the collection of government revenues from all sources. The UNDP ICT’s Unit, headed by its ICT-LAN Manager,  Kaman Weah, is working closely with the LRA to ensure that the data center is set up and the equipment is used for the intended purpose. He said his technical team, which is composed of ICT professionals, will provide the requisite skills and capacities needed for the project.Responding on behalf of the LRA, its Deputy Commissioner General for Administration,  Oliver Rogers, lauded UNDP, which he described as a “Reliable Partner” in government’s implementation of its reform agenda under the Agenda for Transformation (AFT).Mr. Rogers indicated that the Liberia Revenue Authority was established to enhance revenue collection; revenue administration; institute tax policies that support economic growth; support the national budget; and deepen and widen the tax net.The Liberia Revenue Authority started full operations on July 12, 2014 but the Act establishing the entity was passed in September of 2013 and published in February of this year. Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
