Criminal enterprises

first_imgThere is something worse than having the city tow your car for illegal parking – getting unjustly towed by a private towing company that charges exorbitant fees by the hour. That’s why Los Angeles is finally cracking down on rogue towing companies that unjustly tow vehicles in private lots, then charge the owners exorbitant storage fees. Apparently, making the companies agree to basic protections during the permitting process isn’t enough. But the city would be wise to see this not as just unsavory companies pushing the limits of their businesses. This is thievery, pure and simple. Rogue tow-truck companies are criminal enterprises that damage the city’s quality of life. To help L.A. and other jurisdictions fight the bandit tow-truck companies, the state Assembly has passed legislation to help crack down. We urge the state Senate to support the bill as well. Cities need all the tools they can get to fight tow-truck bandits and other crimes against law-abiding citizens.
